Moby - Play (2x12"LP)

Re-release of Moby's fifth studio album as a double LP set with 180g heavyweight vinyl. Originally released in 1999, it became the most successful indie album of the year and went platinum in over 20 countries. With ‘Play’, Moby changed his way of working once again. He took samples from folk and gospel - many of which came from Alan Lomax's archive - and combined them with his electronic soundscapes. He cuts loops from the samples, which he repeats endlessly: Bessie Jones' “Sometimes” is repeated over 20 times in “Honey”, creating the hypnotic pull that made this song a hit. On its release, many Moby fans who had expected a techno album turned away and the album failed to make a significant appearance in the charts. It was to take over ten months before the tide turned and the album became an absolute hit after all. With 9 (!) singles and countless licences for TV shows, films and commercials, the album became a perennial bestseller and has sold well over 12 million units to date.
